St. Patrick's Day is the anniversary of St. Patrick's Day which falls on March 17 each year, the day that commemorates the death of the Patron Saint of Ireland. All citizens of Irish descent celebrate. At this memorial people wear green clothes. Parties featuring Irish food and drink tinged with green food are part of St. Patrick's celebrations. Food and drink provided such as Irish chocolate bread, corned beef and cabbage, beef pie, poundies, cally or pandy, irish soup, Irish chocolate cream mousse cake, Irish coffee and many more.
St. Patrick was one of the patron saints of Ireland. He is said to have died on March 17 in or around 493. He grew up in Rome-England, but was captured by Irish robbers and brought to Ireland as a slave when he was young. After a few years he went to his family and entered the church, like his father and grandfather before him. He then returned to Ireland as a missionary and worked in the north and west of the country.
According to popular legend, St. Patrick removed Ireland from snakes. It is thought there have been no snakes in Ireland since the recent ice age. The "snake" that St. Patrick of Ireland banished, may refer to the Druids or serpent idolaters or serpent gods. He said he was buried under the Katerdal Down in Downpatrick, Ireland.
Luke Wadding, a Franciscan scholar born in 1588 in Waterford, on the south coast of Ireland, is so influential as to make sure for st.Patrick's death became a feast in the Catholic Church. Many catholic churches traditionally move St.
Many immigrants from Ireland fled to other parts of the world, including Australia, Canada, Britain and the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. Many Irish customs, including St. Patrick's Day celebrations, have become very popular in these countries.
